The 48-Hour Film Festival

Nathan, Micah, Bill and I just got back from an encore screening of the "best of" the 48-hour film festival in Washington, DC. Since Micah wants to be a film director someday, my cousin thought he might be interested in participating in this competition next year. The basic idea is that the team will write, film, edit and produce a 7 min. maximum movie in 48 hours, from scratch. They also will have to use a certain character, prop and spoken line in the movie; these are a secret until the first day. This year's requirements were a fire extinguisher, Tim Tate (a glass artist), the line, "This is absolutely the last time." The competitions start on a Friday night at 7pm and go to Sunday evening at 7pm. Here are the rules: 48 hour filmaking rules

We were so impressed with the quality of the films. Micah was amazed that they could do it all in just 48 hours. Most of them were very humorous and extremely clever. It was fun to watch. They are doing these competitions in cities across the US, so if you get a chance to watch the finished movies in your area, go see them!

These were some of the ones we saw. We were there a little bit late, so we missed the first few. First we had to find the theater, and then we had to find parking...both of which are not easy tasks in DC. ;o)
