Neighborhood Picnic

YES, at the end of October, we had a neighborhood picnic. I had tried to have one in July, but it kept getting postponed because of too many activities or trying to coordinate schedules with others in the neighborhood. A couple of weeks ago, the weather was PERFECT. Last week, it would have been rained out, so when it was windy and chilly today, I was just thankful it wasn't raining or snowing. :o)
We smoked some more pork for BBQ sandwiches (well, okay...Nathan and Micah smoked the pork), and asked neighbors to bring sides and desserts. I originally bought sodas to use, but at the last minuted thought hot drinks would be more popular, so we also had hot chocolate and spiced tea to warm us up. It was pretty chilly when the sun went down.

The association hired an Irish Folk Band called Stringer Folk as entertainment. Linn Kezer just happens to live in the neighborhood. ;o) Bill and I have listened to them perform at Jake's a couple of times, and enjoyed their fun loving humor and folk songs. They were great! They were also good sports, since it really was pretty cold towards the end, and their fingers were getting stiff.
On one song, they invited the children to come up and help out with hand gestures. The kids loved it, and we loved watching them. It was a great chance to meet with our neighbors and get to know them a little better.
The turnout could have been a little better (only 8 families out of 94 came), but that is about normal from past experience. Maybe the word will get out that it was a good time, and more will participate the next time!
