Adventures in the War of Northern Aggression
Today at Learning Tree Farms we learned about different forces, and angles. Then, we got to test out our knowledge by using a computer cannon firing simulation. After shooting at low and high angles, we went to do a field exercise outside. We marched in two lines, down a hill, singing a home-made version of the marching song. At the bottom of the hill were two automatic softball pitching machines. There were also two small, wooden, fake trains. One was 100 feet away, the other 135 feet.

We aimed the pitchers where we thought would work, got the right angles we wanted, and loaded them up and fired them. Micah got his on the second try. When Nathan was about to fire his, he was asked to try and use a high angle instead of the low angle everyone else was using. So after about five or six tries of sending the ball 150+ feet in the air, he finally had to move on and let someone else try a shot.

Once we were done with the cannons, we came back inside and had our snack.

After the snack, we started to learn about wigwag communication, and Col. Mosby.

Wigwag is a form of wireless communication using a flag. The system was invented by a union army scum...I mean surgeon. He based the system off of the telegraph, and the way that the native Americans communicated.

Col. Mosby was athe leader of a group of Confederate soldiers. Mosby is famous for being one of the pioneers in guerilla warfare. He used local men, and small numbers to stay ahead of the union soldiers. Throughout the entire war, it is believed that he subverted around 30,000 troops from the front lines, using only his (at its peak) group of 800 men.

All in all, this was a good time (even if it was a little biased).
