We were able to open the "doors" on April 10, 2006 (only about a year from its inception)!
THIS is what has been keeping me from updating the blog as often as I would like (or should)...so maybe you'll see a little more consistency and frequency from here on. Then again, maybe not, since I still have a lot to do with maintaining the website and supporting the Creative Team.
Christina Bartholomew (whom I "met" through the twinstuff.com forum) approached me about working with her to start a digital scrapbooking website where busy Moms, or people who are just not familiar with nor interested in learning how to use the photo editing software, could find quick and easy pages to use for scrapbooking layouts. For those of you who are not familiar with digital scrapbooking, it is basically the same thing as traditional paper scrapbooking, only you use papers, embellishments and lettering that is created using a computer! We try to recreate the same types of looks and textures as the real papers and elements by using realistic shadowing and detail.
Christina is from Utah...only on the internet can you make friends and start a business with someone halfway across the US from you! Amazing!!
There are MANY advantages of digital scrapping over paper scrapping:
(1) You can use the same "kit" over and over again for different pictures
(2) You can print out unlimited number of copies of the pages for friends and relatives
(3) You can fix your pages until you get them just right without wasting supplies
(4) It takes up a LOT less space in your house (although a large external harddrive is helpful to store all those big files you get with digital scrapping)
(5) It's harder for your kids to get into the supplies
Nathan has been helping me with the technical aspects of website design, since he has learned on his own how to do a little bit of php, css and html to design several of his own sites. Opening a commercial website is a little more challenging than the previous ones we were involved in designing, but it has been a great learning experience and fun to see it come together when we finally figure out how to do it the way we want. Trying to configure three different software programs that we purchased or downloaded free was difficult and time consuming, and sent us searching for answers on the forums or google more than once. The neat part is that I know a whole lot more about the coding end of things than I did at the beginning. The problem is, as fast as the technology changes, everything I know will be outdated the next time I try this! LOL BTW, my sister Jessie, who is a graphic artist and was the one who introduced Nathan to flash and website design in the first place, was the creative genius behind the animated clock logo above and on the website.
