A Sight for Sore Eyes

KRAIN IS HOME!!!!
We were warned it might happen, but you never know for sure with the military. To our pleasant surprise, Krain came to church today for the first time in nine months. He has been in Iraq and is only home on a short visit this time, but hopefully will be back after a few more months once he trains his replacement in Iraq.

Renee caught sight of him, and asked to go and sit with him. At first she wanted me to go with her to ask him, but when I told her no, she mustered up the courage and went herself. When he hugged her and had her sit in the chair next to him, she was grinning from ear to ear. :o) Krain said that during the singing they were sharing the song sheet and he was having a tough time reading the words since she's so much shorter than him. Then he asked her, can you read? She said no, that's what she's learning in school this year. He figured it would be okay to use it for himself, then. LOL

We did have a little chance to get caught up with him during the Sunday School hour (ended up playing "hookey"). I couldn't resist the chance to hear a little about what he went through since he was rarely able to write back while he was there. The funny thing is that he had a lot of "poop" stories...just like us Moms of twins are used to sharing. LOL He said things are pretty primitive still, and there is no indoor plumbing in most places, so...you have to be careful where you step, and stay out of the sandstorms! EEK! He's still getting used to seeing something other than sand...and more sand. The temperature is delightful for him here...much more comfortable than the 100 to 131 degrees he was accustomed to in Iraq. He said it is difficult to remember where he is when he first wakes up, and he still reaches for his gun that isn't there. We are looking forward to getting together with him next week, after he has a chance to go and see his family. It's so great to see him safe and sound!

Speaking of safe and sound, we were blessed to also get a glimpse of Brandon, another friend who was deployed to Iraq. He, too, is only home for a short visit, but even a short visit is refreshing. God has been merciful in keeping both of these guys in His care, and we are grateful!
