We are SMOKIN'!!!

Smokin' meats, that is! Bill and the boys went to help out with a local political campaign and to make it more enticing, they invited the participants back the precinct captain's house for BBQ and all the trimmings. They loved it!! Bill said it was the best BBQ chicken he'd ever tasted. Right after that, Bill started researching smokers. LOL

We found one very reasonably priced at Lowe's. Micah decided that he wanted pulled pork BBQ, not the "usual" pizza, for his birthday party! We found out that the Boston Butt portion of pork is the best cut for that. Bill found a rub recipe and we smoked 14 pounds of Boston Butt pork all day on Friday. (I wasn't sure how much to make--the meat man said we would probably need 1 pound per person. We only used about half of ONE of the cuts of meat. WOW!) That smelled SO good! I bet we had all the neighbors drooling. ;o)

It was a big hit with the whole family, as well as our party guests. The teenage boys kept going back for more! One of the fathers was over dropping off his son for the party, and we gave him a sample. He kept saying he needed to go, while sneaking more of the BBQ. LOL I think he liked it. :o)

Bill tried another smoker meal tonight..pork chops with smoked apples. It turned out really well, too! We are really liking this new kitchen gadget (or rather, back porch gadget...thankfully, this one doesn't have to fit on the kitchen counter) !
