How To Pray for Katelyn

We visited a local pediatric urologist, Dr. Pohl, today for the first time. I was pleased with the appointment, and like him a lot. I was impressed that he made sure he had all the information about previous visits to doctors and her situation BEFORE we went to see him. He didn't want to just tell us to go and get tests done so he could make a diagnosis. I was also impressed with his gentle, but firm, manner towards Katelyn. He talked with both of us, and seemed to know what he was doing.

He is giving Katelyn a chance to try and see if she can do timed voiding instead of using a catheter..taking her off of everything except for the constipation medication. In other words, almost starting from scratch. If by doing this her bowels and bladder start doing things the way they are supposed to, she may not need to use the cath at all. If not, she will have to cath, but is hopeful that if we really, consistently do the timed voiding, we may be able to train her bladder to do what it should.

I was much more impressed with this doctor than the nephrologist who (1) sent in her 4th year resident student to do all the questions and info on our very first visit with that doctor, and (2) wanted to do major surgery on her that probably wouldn't have helped because she would have to cath every time anyway, just through her belly buttom instead of the normal way. The problem is getting K to cath herself in the first place and do anything on a consistent, daily basis. The urologist, Dr. Pohl, does that surgery, but he only recommends it for people who cannot cath the normal way or are paralyzed....extreme cases. Katelyn is not one of those cases.

Anyway, please pray for us to be able to consistently do the timed voiding for six weeks, and for her bladder to get back to normal functioning. That would be awesome! It's funny..you never appreciate your bodily functions until they stop working. Then you even get excited about things like pee & poo! LOL
